Effective Communication in an era of Climate Denial?

Location: Event in Christchurch / Ōtautahi

Date and time:  Friday 17 October from 10-2.30pm

Organisers/Hosts: University of Canterbury

$45

The climate crisis is one of the most difficult topics in science communication. The impacts of the climate crisis may be increasingly obvious but the benefits of investing in action are often delayed. Political leaders lack vision, yet the language of climate urgency can cause undesired backlash effects. In an age of disinformation, intense lobbying, unregulated AI and growing nationalism, how do we advance inclusive climate conversations that promote effective action?

This workshop hosted by the University of Canterbury brings together communicators, policy analysts and community leaders from diverse backgrounds (journalism, creative arts, politics activism and psychology), who are responding to these challenges.

Participants are invited to share insights, practical actions and ways of evaluating the impact of these.

The event prioritises Indigenous, participatory and solutions-based frameworks, including those that make a moral call on community through the language of hope, care and justice
